Manzanillo – TI, a clone of the cv. Manzanillo, which was introduced to Israel from the United States about 60 years ago.

Geographical Distribution

Manzanillo – TI is the major cultivar for pickling in all olive-growing regions in Israel. It is not grown under dryland conditions.

Description

Tree Medium vigor, long annual growth, predominant lateral growth, with a tendency to hanging fruiting shoots. The nodes of the annual growth are relatively long.
Leaf Similar to Manzanillo leaves.
Flower
Stone Smooth and elongated, with a maximum diameter below the middle of the stone.
Fruit The fruit is elongated and symmetrical with a yellowish-green colour for green picking and a dark black colour when fully ripe. The fruit is uniform with a mean size of 4.5-5.5 g. The mesocarp is smooth and usually firm, including at black maturation. The stone at green maturation is mostly free.

Agronomic Characteristics

Very similar to cv. Manzanillo, although it is more vigorous. Highly sensitive to drought. A high producer, it responds well to chemical thinning and fruit loosening for mechanical harvest. The fruit bruises quite easily. Alternance can mostly be overcome by horticultural means. In most orchards it is pruned annually and in "on" years with a high yield, chemical fruit thinning is important. Alternance can be reduced by scaffold girdling. It is very sensitive to the olive fly (Dacus oleae) and wood borers (Zeuzera pyrina), and medium sensitive to leaf spot (Cycloconium oleaginum).
